Ben Myers, sustainability manager at Boston Properties, Inc. (NYSE: BXP), joined Nareit for a video interview at Nareit’s 2018 ESG Forum in Seattle.

Myers discussed ESG reporting and noted that, in general, the industry is moving toward standardization. However, “there still remains a lot of variability on the social and governance aspects of sustainability,” he noted.

Myers stressed the importance of industry-wide standards to facilitate “meaningful comparisons” between companies and portfolios.

“Ultimately, it’s our objective…to provide the highest quality ESG data to our stakeholders and most importantly our investors,” Myers said.

Meanwhile, Myers highlighted some of the unique and innovative sustainability aspects of two Boston Properties projects—888 Boylston in Boston and the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco. Boston Properties was a 2017 co-winner of Nareit's Leader in the Light Awards' Most Innovative category.
