Following the release of the Practical Reference for ESG Implementation and Reporting (PDF), Nareit is hosting a series of open office hours with industry ESG experts to enable Nareit members to have a forum to ask specific questions about each chapter of the guide, discuss hurdles they may be facing in establishing or advancing any of the actions outlined, or talk through steps they can take to overcome challenges to implement certain ESG criteria areas in their own organizations.
The second open office hours session will be held on Oct. 13 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET and will focus on pages 48-74 of the guide, covering topics such as:
- Supply chain management
- Stakeholder engagement
- Health and safety
- Workforce development
- Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
The Governance office hours will be held on Nov. 17.

The office hours are designed for individuals who have responsibilities for ESG-related matters at Nareit member REITs, but open to any interested Nareit corporate or individual members.

Nareit’s Practical Reference for ESG Implementation and Reporting (PDF) provides practical and actionable guidance, as well as helpful tools and resources, to enable effective ESG management and disclosure – no matter how new or advanced a REIT may be in its sustainability journey.
The information contained in this Reference is presented in three chapters – Environmental, Social and Governance – and is distilled from ESG standards and frameworks, perspectives from subject matter experts, and leading practice examples, and complements Nareit’s 2019 Guide to ESG Reporting Frameworks , which details the 15 most frequently evaluated ESG topics facing the REIT and real estate industry.
The Reference may serve as a tool for REITs to obtain internal commitment and buy-in, identify immediate actions, and establish long-term objectives for ESG implementation and disclosure.
