The heads of four REITs have made the Harvard Business Review’s latest ranking of the 100 best-performing CEOs in the world.
American Tower Corp. (NYSE: AMT) Chairman, President, and CEO James Taiclet Jr., Prologis Inc. (NYSE: PLD) Chairman and CEO Hamid Moghadam, Simon Property Group, Inc. (NYSE: SPG) Chairman and CEO David Simon, and Ventas, Inc. (NYSE: VTR) Chairman and CEO Debra Cafaro were included in the top 100 list.
Moghadam ranked 17th, while Simon ranked 37th, Cafaro 56th, and Taiclet 67th.
Taiclet is one of only six CEOs to have appeared on the list every year since 2013, while Cafaro is one of only three female CEOs on the list.
“A CEO’s success is dependent on the strength of her colleagues, and this recognition is a testament to Ventas’s collaborative culture and our team’s dedication to excellence and integrity,” Cafaro said.
To compile the list, HBR began with companies that were in the S&P Global 1200 at the end of 2017 and excluded CEOs who had been in the job for less than two years. The methodology is primarily based on the financial returns for the CEO’s entire tenure, which makes up 80 percent of the final ranking. To calculate the final position, the additional 20 percent of a CEO’s ranking factors in a company’s rating on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.
