Merger and acquisition activity has accelerated among U.S. REITs this year as the industry continues to recover from the coronavirus pandemic downturn. Total announced M&A deal value in 2021 is in excess of $50 billion, driven by notable public-to-public mergers as well as take-private activity. Many analysts believe that more deals are likely during the balance of 2021 and into 2022, driven by access to capital and strategic considerations.
