REIT stocks declined in the week ended Oct. 1, with a total return of -1.6% on the FTSE Nareit All Equity REITs Index. Broader markets also fell, with a decline of 2.2% on both the Russell 1000 and the S&P 500.
Most REIT property sectors were in the red. Infrastructure REITs had a total return of -4.7% while data center REITs were down 4.5%; there were smaller declines in the timber, self storage, industrial, residential, specialty, and lodging sectors. Diversified, retail, and office REIT sectors registered modest gains.
Mortgage REITs were mixed, with home financing mREITs declining 0.4%, but commercial financing mREITs rising 0.5%
