There were increases in stock prices across all property types in the U.S. REIT universe last week, lifting the FTSE Nareit All Equity REITs index to a 2.0% total return. Last week’s gains trimmed the declines so far this year to single digits, bringing the year-to-date total return to -9.0%.
Every property sector posted gains last week. Lodging/Resorts and Timber REITs recorded the largest increases, of 11.5% and 5.5%, respectively. mREITs also rose, with the home financing and commercial financing sectors gaining 2.5% and 3.6%, respectively.
The increases last week brought the number of REIT property sectors with positive total returns in 2020 to five: Timber (+2.3%), Self Storage (+2.4%), Industrial (+12.3%), Infrastructure (+14.3%), and Data Centers (+31.7%). These property sectors account for 51% of the total market capitalization of the All Equity REITs index.
