REIT share prices were little changed in the week ended July 16, with a total return of 0.5% on the FTSE Nareit All Equity REITs Index. Broader equity markets, in contrast, declined, with a negative 1.0% return on the S&P 500 and negative 1.3% on the Russell 1000.
There was quite a bit of variation last week across property sectors in the REIT universe. Timber REITs were down 4.5% and lodging/resorts declined 4.1%, while residential REITs gained 2.1% (including 2.5% among the apartment REIT subsector) and a 2.0% return for health care REITs.
mREITs declined, with a negative 5.0% return for home financing mREITs, and negative 1.9% for commercial financing mREITs.
