REITs declined in the opening week of 2021, with a -2.4% total return on the FTSE Nareit All Equity REITs index. Most property sectors declined, with office REITs down 4.6%, data centers down 3.7%, diversified REITs down 3.6%, and industrial and health care REITs each down 3.2%. Lodging/resorts and timber REITs edged higher, with total returns of 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively.
Mortgage REITs were mixed last week, with a -1.1% return on home financing mREITs but a 1.2% gain on commercial financing mREITs.
