REIT share prices moved higher last week, with a 0.3% total return on the FTSE Nareit All Equity REITs Index. The small increase was the fourth week out of the past five that REIT returns have been positive.
Performance was mixed across the property sectors, although there were not large moves either up or down. Lodging/resorts had a return of -1.0%, the third consecutive weekly decline, although year-to-date returns remain strongly positive at 18.6%. Diversified and specialty REITs had somewhat smaller declines of 0.8% and 0.6%, respectively.
Timber REITs led the gains with a 2.5% total return, and self storage were close behind with a 2.2% return.
mREITs were mixed with a -0.3% total return for home financing mREITs but a 0.1% gain for commercial financing mREITs.
