REIT share prices dipped last week following a six week string of increases, as the FTSE Nareit All Equity REITs Index had a total return of -0.7%. The streak of weekly increases lifted the year-to-date return from 6.0% as of March 26, to 16.3% through May 7.
Sectors with declines last week included infrastructure and data centers, which were two of the biggest winners last year, with decreases last week of 2.9% and 1.7%, respectively. Health care, lodging/resorts, office, and self storage sectors also had declines of 1% or more.
A number of sectors posted increases last week, however, including timber (3.6%), specialty (2.0%), and retail REITs (1.3%). mREITs were mixed, with commercial financing mREITS down 1.8% while home financing mREITs edged up 0.1%.
