The FTSE Nareit All Equity REITs index rose 1.5% for the week ending Nov. 5 while the FTSE Nareit Equity REITs index rose 1.8%. Year-to-date total returns for All Equity REITs was 32.2% and 34.9 % for Equity REITs. Broader markets rose, with a gain of 2.0% on the Russell 1000, which has a year-to-date total return of 25.6%.
REIT property sectors generally performed well last week. Lodging/resorts delivered a total return of 10.3%, with retail following at 8.0% and timber at 7.0%. After a week of standout performance, data centers and self storage lagged with total returns of -3.8% and -2.3%, respectively.
Mortgage REITs also performed well, with returns of 2.5% for commercial financing mREITs and 2.3% for home financing mREITs.
