As part of their partnership, Nareit and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) are collaborating on a new program—PERFORM—to support REITs that are early in their sustainability and resilience journeys and that are seeking to improve and recognize their progress.
Like many companies, REITs are at different stages of their sustainability and resilience journeys. PERFORM meets REITs where they are by supporting a range of portfolio-level key performance indicators (KPIs) and user-defined priorities that go beyond decarbonization to include energy and water savings, health, equity, and well-being. PERFORM allows REITs to track their progress on these KPIs and receive verification and recognition from the USGBC. The verification and recognition will build upon on the success of USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)—the world's most widely used green building rating system. Nareit and the USGBC will work together to engage a broad spectrum of REITs, especially those who are just beginning to address sustainability and resiliency challenges across the multifamily, retail, health care, industrial, self-storage, lodging, office, and data center sectors.
To learn more, Nareit members are invited to join the program launch workshop, which will take place at GREENBUILD on Nov. 12, 2024, in Philadelphia, PA, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Jessica Long, SVP, Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability at Nareit, will be a featured speaker.
Nareit members can use code NAREITEXPO for a free attendee expo pass, and they can register here. Additional information will be shared at the RESC meeting in December, and Nareit will offer virtual opportunities for members to learn about the program in early 2025.
