Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Rob Portman (R-OH) were both announced as winners of the 2021 Small Investor Empowerment (SIE) Award during Nareit’s CEO Forum and Advocacy Day.
The SIE Award was established on behalf of all people who invest in, are employed by, or are otherwise within the community of stakeholders who REITs and publicly traded real estate companies serve.
It recognizes public servants who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the ideals of free enterprise and economic opportunity for all Americans, which are embodied in REITs and REIT investment.
Senators Menendez and Portman, both members of the Senate Finance Committee, have demonstrated a keen understanding and solid recognition of REITs and the contribution they make to strengthen the U.S. economy. They have supported past legislative efforts to preserve the REIT approach to real estate investment and have championed many bipartisan bills that have improved the American economy. For these reasons and their distinguished tenure in public service, Nareit is recognizing their support for the industry with this year’s award.
Last year’s winners of the SIE Award were Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA).
