Nareit’s John Jones, SVP of government relations, moderated a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) thought leadership panel on Sept. 13 as part of the organization’s annual legislative conference. In his remarks, Jones highlighted that real estate is no different than any other economic activity sensitive to supply and demand. Enhancing supply through responsible development is one way to make home ownership more achievable, he said.

Panelists for the session, titled “Building Wealth Through Homeownership,” included:

  • Rohit Chopra, director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau of the United States;
  • Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO), Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Housing and Insurance Subcommittee;
  • Alanna McCargo, CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco;
  • Michael T. Pugh, CEO of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC);
  • Dr. Courtney Johnson Rose, president of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB); and
  • Adrianne Todman, acting secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
