Nareit Hawaii presented a $75,000 grant to the nonprofit Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation to support their program of providing stable and affordable housing to young, single mothers raising small children.
Having overcome difficult life challenges, such as homelessness, an absence of family support, or an abusive home situation, these young mothers are now living independently in their own apartments while learning to be self-sufficient and confident at raising their children.
Nareit Hawaii’s grant will improve their living conditions at the apartment building by funding the construction of a new, covered laundry area, the purchase of a new washer and dryer, and the resurfacing of the parking lot as it has become degraded and hazardous while walking.
Nareit Hawaii Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone said, “We’re grateful to be offering our support to these families and provide the funding for these improvements that will help make their daily lives a better experience.”
