With the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) set to expire at the end of September, NAREIT joined other real estate organizations in writing a joint letter to House Financial Services Committee leaders with suggestions to improve the program.
“NFIP coverage continues to be essential for homeowners, renters, commercial and multifamily property owners and small businesses in affected areas,” the organizations wrote in a letter addressed to House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) and Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-CA).
The organizations offered a number of recommendations, including enacting a long-term reauthorization of the program and expanding private flood insurance markets.
