Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. (NYSE: OHI) and SITE Centers Corp. (NYSE: SITC) were recently included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index, along with six other Nareit members. The companies were erroneously omitted from the list of REITs published in Nareit Weekly on Jan. 27, 2020.
REITs have been focused on increasing the number of women on their boards and throughout their companies, as well as ensuring that women are part of an inclusive environment that allows them to participate fully and thrive. In addition to Omega Healthcare and SITE Centers, the other six Nareit members that were included in the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index are: Healthpeak Properties, Inc. (NYSE: PEAK), Kilroy Realty Corp. (NYSE: KRC), MFA Financial, Inc. (NYSE: MFA), Ventas, Inc. (NYSE: VTR), Welltower Inc. (NYSE: WELL), and Weyerhaeuser Co. (NYSE: WY). Bloomberg says that investors are “waking up to the power of women,” and that companies included in the index are committed to supporting gender equality through policy development, representation, and transparency.
Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said last week that the performance of public offerings of U.S. companies with at least one female director has been “significantly better” than those without in recent years, and that beginning in 2020, Goldman Sachs will not help companies go public without at least one diverse board member.
