Three NAREIT Corporate Members have been recognized for adding energy and water-saving clauses to their leases to drive higher performance in their commercial, retail and industrial buildings.
The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) and the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Better Buildings Alliance announced the 2017 Green Lease Leaders earlier this month. The leaders included Boston Properties (NYSE: BXP), Washington REIT (NYSE: WRE) and Welltower (NYSE: HCN). IMT noted that Welltower was the first Green Lease Leader to be selected from the health care sector.
“Green Lease Leaders continues to lay the foundation for a new standard of practice where tenants and landlords regularly work together to create win-win solutions to advance building energy efficiency and sustainability,” said Jason Hartke, program manager of Commercial Buildings Integration at DOE.
