S&P Global Market Intelligence hosted a webinar on April 21 to preview the elevation of Real Estate to a headline Sector under the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS).
The program featured David Blitzer, managing director and chairman of the S&P Dow Jones Indices Index Committee; Keven Lindemann, director of the S&P Global Market Intelligence Real Estate Group; and David Wiggington, managing director with DISCERN. Topics included the impact of the move on portfolio allocations and capital flows in real estate.
During the program, Blitzer said the response to S&P Dow Jones Indices’ request in 2014 for comment on potentially moving real estate to its own Sector produced an overwhelming response that REITs should be reclassified.
