The heads of three U.S. REITs have made the Harvard Business Review’s (HBR) latest ranking of the 100 best-performing CEOs in the world.
Prologis, Inc. (NYSE: PLD) Chairman and CEO Hamid Moghadam, Ventas, Inc. (NYSE: VTR) Chairman and CEO Debra Cafaro, and Simon Property Group, Inc. (NYSE: SPG) Chairman and CEO David Simon were included in the top 100 list.
Moghadam ranked 17th, while Cafaro ranked 29th, and Simon ranked 67th. Moghadam appears on the list for the fourth consecutive year. Cafaro, appearing on the list for the sixth consecutive year, was one of only four female CEOs in the ranking. Last year, three female CEOs made the top 100 global CEO list.
To compile the list, HBR began with companies that were in the S&P Global 1200 at the end of 2018 and excluded CEOs who had been in the job for less than two years. The methodology is primarily based on the financial returns for the CEO’s entire tenure, which makes up 70% of the final ranking. To calculate the final position, the additional 30% of a CEO’s ranking factors in a company’s rating on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. For the past four years, HBR weighted ESG scores to account for 20% of each CEO’s final ranking. This year it tweaked the formula, increasing that share to 30%.
