At the start of the pandemic, REIT magazine took a step that many in the publishing industry were also taking—shifting to a digital-only format. Since then, we have continued to produce the award-winning bi-monthly magazine in the same way we have done for the prior two decades.
During the course of 2022, we have been thinking hard about the future of the magazine and whether its current format and frequency was the most effective way to inform readers about the trends, companies, and executives impacting the REIT and real estate investment industry.
As such, we have made the decision that this issue will be the final one for REIT magazine. While many will be sad to see REIT magazine disappear, you can be assured that the same content you have enjoyed over the years is not going away—only its delivery will be different.
Starting in the new year, we will be producing and publishing our editorial content on a regular basis, meaning that if a feature story is ready for the spotlight it can be published immediately, rather than waiting to be aggregated with other content for the next bi-monthly issue. The advantage is that we can be nimbler and more responsive and can get content out to you in a timelier way. The change will also allow us to free up resources that were spent on magazine production processes and re-direct them to the task of content creation.
The content you are used to seeing in REIT magazine will be featured on our enhanced Industry News section of REIT. com. The new section will also highlight Nareit’s video and podcast content, market commentaries and blog posts about latest Nareit developments, as well as other thought leadership pieces and social media feeds.
In the meantime, I encourage you to sample the range of stories in this current issue. Our cover story features a familiar face in the REIT industry, Ventas, Inc. (NYSE: VTR) Chairman and CEO Debra Cafaro. When the former Real Estate Portfolio magazine was rebranded REIT magazine with the January/February 2010 issue, we chose Cafaro to be on the cover of that inaugural issue. It is a testament to her leadership skills and business acumen that she appears again on the cover of this final issue at the end of 2022.
We look forward to sharing the new-look Nareit news platform with you in the new year and thank you for your support of REIT magazine over the past two decades.
