Terry Considine, CEO of Apartment Income REIT Corp. (NYSE: AIRC), participated in a video interview in conjunction with Nareit’s REITweek: 2022 Investor Conference in New York on June 7-9.
Considine said Apartment Income REIT works hard to create a sense of community for its residents so they can have a more “elevated” living experience.
“We spend a lot of time on the physical structures, but more importantly, the social structures,” he noted.
Turning to the economy, Considine said that inflation is “quite real” now that it’s as high as it’s been in 40 years, and while it can mean higher rental income for apartments, “it’s bad for the economy and, therefore in the end, not a good thing.”
Considine said Apartment Income REIT combats this by ensuring its rents are appropriately set, properties are in good repair, and leverage is low.
Considine added that Apartment Income REIT is an “outdoors, exercise-orientated” company and makes wellness convenient for its residents, including offering activity challenges and Colorado mountain climbing and skiing outings.
