W. Edward Walter, senior advisor at Energy Impact Partners (EIP), sat down for a video interview at Nareit’s REITworks: 2024 Sustainability & Social Responsibility Conference, held in McLean, Virginia from Sept. 10-12.
Founded a decade ago, EIP has amassed over $4 billion in assets by targeting opportunities arising from changes in the energy landscape, particularly related to solar energy and sustainability.
Walter highlighted EIP's investment priorities, which include measuring emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, electrification, developing microgrids, and addressing embodied carbon in real estate. Notable investments include Measurabl, which provides a platform for real-time emissions tracking, and Audette, which helps real estate owners assess portfolio emissions.
Other significant investments feature AtmosZero, a company converting electricity to high-intensity steam; Aeroseal, focused on HVAC energy efficiency; Enchanted Rock, offering clean power solutions for microgrids; and Sublime Systems, which produces carbon-neutral concrete.
Walter explained that EIP evaluates market needs through collaboration between strategic investors from the utility, real estate, and clean energy sectors and a dedicated research team. This synergy enables EIP to identify promising companies and foster beneficial relationships that lead to successful investments.
