Conor Flynn, CEO of Kimco Realty Corporation (NYSE: KIM), participated in a video interview at Nareit’s REITweek: 2023 Investor Conference, held in New York June 6-8.
Flynn talked about Kimco’s curbside pickup program that was launched in 2020 to help its retailers and customers adapt to new shopping habits during the pandemic, noting that “retail thrives when it’s convenient.”
“It doesn’t matter which retailer you’re shopping at, [the program] can work no matter whether it’s a large, big box retailer, mid-size junior anchor, or a small mom and pop tenant,” he said. “They have all adopted the program and want to see more of it, so we’re rolling it out further throughout the portfolio.”
Flynn said that Kimco’s recent appointment to Newsweek America's Most Responsible Companies 2023 was a great honor for the REIT.
“Part of Kimco’s culture is focusing on the stakeholders, and how do we go about fulfilling our desire and our needs to make sure that stakeholders understand what we’re doing as a company,” he said.
Flynn added that grocery-anchored shopping centers are “having a moment” and are shining as a sweet spot within retail this year.
“A lot of it has to do with how people live, work, and play today and how they’re embracing omnichannel retail,” he added.
