Ron Bohlert, listing lead—real estate at the New York Stock Exchange, participated in a video interview during REITwise 2022: Nareit’s Law, Accounting & Finance Conference held in Orlando, Florida on March 23-25.
Bohlert said there has been volatility and instability so far this year in the U.S. equity markets, in part due to an increased pace of interest rate increases. “We also have asset purchases winding down, inflation at 40-year highs, and on top of that now, the conflict in Ukraine adding to supply chain issues and then increasing inflation across a lot of commodities,” he added.
Looking specifically at the market appetite for new listings, Bohlert said that in 2021, there was $28 billion in follow-on offerings in the REIT space as people took advantage of the better valuations in the marketplace to raise capital.
Bohlert also said the NYSE’s new Sustainability Advisory Council will bring together select sustainability professionals across the NYSE community of 2,400 listed companies to address ESG best practices and help “raise all boats.”
