Moishe Gubin, chairman and CEO of Strawberry Fields REIT, Inc. (OTCQX: STRW), participated in a video interview at Nareit’s REITworld: 2022 Annual Conference held in San Francisco on Nov. 15-17.
Gubin noted that his career began in the nursing home business, and his background is part of the reason why Strawberry Fields focuses on the skilled nursing and acute care industries today.
Gubin said that when it comes to strategy, Strawberry Fields typically looks to add to master leases or sizeable portfolios in new geographies.
“We’ve been looking at a lot of deals, and because of [the pandemic], the financial model has been where a lot of deals aren’t happening on our end, because we’re very disciplined investors,” he said. “We don’t push for deals that don’t make sense for us.”
Gubin discussed Strawberry Fields’ unique name, fashioned after the 1967 Beatles song “Strawberry Fields Forever.”
“When [we realized] the math of most of our clientele would be baby boomers in our facilities, we said, ‘Most of the baby boomer world would have to be Beatles fans,’” he said.
