Stephen Yalof, president & CEO of Tanger® Outlets (NYSE: SKT), participated in a video interview at Nareit’s REITweek: 2023 Investor Conference, held in New York June 6-8.
Yalof said that the concept of community has become even more important to Tanger post-pandemic, as most of its locations are open-air shopping centers. He said that the concept of Tanger locations being community gathering places ultimately led the company to rebrand with a new corporate blue color, which it calls “open-air blue.”
Turning to how inflation is impacting retail this year, Yalof said that consumers continue to look for brands that they know and love.
“When you can buy [those brands] at an every day value price, ours will be the centers that they seek to buy the brands and the products that they’re looking for,” he said.
Yalof added that he’s “very optimistic” about the retail real estate segment more broadly, noting that a new Tanger center will open in October in Nashville with a “very high occupancy rate [that] we’re extremely proud of.”
